Yes — Alocasia is moderately toxic to cats
Alocasia contains higher concentrations of calcium oxalate crystals than many other aroids. The needle-like crystals cause immediate intense pain and swelling. Large specimens are especially risky as leaves are at pet-face height.
Symptoms in Cats
If your cat eats Alocasia, watch for these symptoms (onset: Immediate):
- Intense oral pain
- Drooling
- Swelling of mouth and tongue
- Difficulty swallowing
- Vomiting
What To Do
Rinse mouth with water. Offer cold milk. If swelling threatens airway, seek emergency vet care immediately.
