Calla Lilies are NOT true lilies (Lilium) and do NOT cause kidney failure in cats. They contain calcium oxalate crystals causing intense oral irritation. The name causes confusion — they are less dangerous than True Lilies.

Symptoms in Cats

If your cat eats Calla Lily, watch for these symptoms (onset: Immediate):

  • Intense oral pain
  • Drooling
  • Swelling of mouth and tongue
  • Vomiting
  • Difficulty swallowing

What To Do

Rinse mouth with water. Offer cold foods. See vet if tongue/throat swelling is severe or breathing is affected.
