Is Cyclamen Toxic to Cats?

Yes — Cyclamen is moderately toxic to cats

Cyclamen tubers are the most dangerous part — far more toxic than leaves or flowers. A common winter houseplant, the attractive flowers make it a popular gift plant. Root/tuber ingestion can be fatal.

Symptoms in Cats

If your cat eats Cyclamen, watch for these symptoms (onset: 30 minutes to 2 hours):

  • Severe vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Heart rhythm abnormalities
  • Seizures (large ingestion)
  • Death (tuber ingestion)

What To Do

See vet immediately if tuber/root ingested. Flower/leaf ingestion usually causes only GI upset. Cardiac monitoring for large ingestions.
