Like tulips and daffodils, Hyacinth toxicity is concentrated in the bulb. Dogs who dig up and chew bulbs are at greatest risk. The strong fragrance of the flowers is harmless.
Symptoms in Dogs
If your dog eats Hyacinth, watch for these symptoms (onset: 15 minutes to 2 hours):
- Severe vomiting
- Diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
- Depression
- Tremors
What To Do
Vet care recommended for bulb ingestion. Monitor hydration. Flower ingestion usually causes mild GI upset only.
