Is Oxalis Toxic to Dogs?
Yes — Oxalis is mildly toxic to dogs
Oxalis (Shamrock Plant) contains soluble oxalates that bind calcium in the body. While small amounts cause only mild GI upset, large quantities can theoretically cause kidney issues, though this is rare in pets.
Symptoms in Dogs
If your dog eats Oxalis, watch for these symptoms (onset: 1 to 4 hours):
- Drooling
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Tremors (large amounts)
- Kidney damage (large amounts)
What To Do
Small nibbles cause mild GI upset. Large ingestions can affect kidneys — contact vet if your pet ate more than a few leaves.
