Is Plumeria Toxic to Dogs?

Yes — Plumeria is mildly toxic to dogs

Plumeria (Frangipani) produces intensely fragrant tropical flowers used in Hawaiian leis. While it's in the Apocynaceae family (same as deadly Oleander), Plumeria has much lower toxin concentrations and typically causes only mild GI upset and skin irritation.

Symptoms in Dogs

If your dog eats Plumeria, watch for these symptoms (onset: 1 to 4 hours):

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Skin irritation from sap
  • Drooling

What To Do

Monitor at home. Wash sap from skin. Despite being in the same family as Oleander, Plumeria is far less toxic. Contact vet if symptoms are severe or prolonged.
