Houseplants That Are Dangerous to Dogs
These common houseplants can cause severe illness or death in dogs. Remove or place well out of reach if you have dogs:
Tips for Dog Owners With Houseplants
Dogs — especially puppies — may dig in soil, chew stems, or knock over pots. Use heavy planters, elevate plants on shelves, and consider bitter apple spray as a deterrent. Puppies are most at risk due to their tendency to explore with their mouths.
Even with non-toxic plants, ingesting large amounts of soil or plant material can cause stomach upset. If your dog is a persistent plant chewer, provide appropriate chew toys and consider keeping plants in rooms your dog doesn't access unsupervised.
